4. Infections
The most common infections which can infect a woman after HIV takes hold include pneumonia, tuberculoses, and hepatitis C. The reason a woman is more likely to contract these infections after having been infected with HIV, is that HIV prevents our immune system from functioning the way it should, so with our bodies immune system struggling to keep us healthy, infections can take advantage of us in this weakened state.
